Collectable very good condition possibly design by Max Neiger a stunning art deco 1930's oriental Czechoslovakian brooch. In the 1920/30's the Neiger brothers Max and Norbert from Gablonz Czechoslovakia were brilliant hard working entrepreneurs. Their earliest lines in jewelry were long mummy shaped egyptian inspired necklaces made with beads or scarabs. These were followed by a chinese and egyptian revival line in brooches and clips. Like most Czech costume jewelry they are not signed and only identified by the style, the materials used and also the construction and design. The two Jewish Neiger brothers relocated to Prague but they were later caught by the Nazi regime and sent to auschwitz extermination camp and killed in the Nazi gas chambers. This is an art deco brass filigree brooch of oriential design in guilt brass that is set with eight small green jade paste stones and four triangular pyramid stones in a similar colour. There is also four brass oriental characters and to the centre a brass crane bird and foliage apparently the crane is the chinese symbol of longevity and bears the soles of the departed to heaven. Back of brooch has a good pin and roll over safety catch.
